Today, TV Guide Network announced that it will exclusively begin broadcasting “Weeds” on basic cable this September. The ShowTime series stars Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban mom who deals pot to make ends meet after her husband dies.
“Weeds” also becomes the third major scripted series TV Guide has acquired in the last nine months. In an attempt to re-brand itself as an entertainment programming destination, the network is debuting new, premium series beginning this summer.
In June, the network will premiere Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, which airs on HBO. and in the fall it will launch a new prime-time schedule that includes reruns of “Ugly Betty”.
“We are thrilled to bring “Weeds” to basic cable on TV Guide Network, where more than 80 million viewers will finally have a chance to enjoy this highly addictive and hilarious show,” said Diane Robina, Executive Vice President, Programming and Marketing, TV Guide Network.
The critically acclaimed “Weeds” has garnered 10 Golden Globe and 19 Emmy nominations and is about to begin production on its 6th season.
Over the course of the past five seasons, Nancy Botwin (Parker) has evolved from a small-time suburban pot dealer to a seasoned player in the drug trade.
The series also stars Elizabeth Perkins, Kevin Nealon, Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Allie Grant and Andy Milder.
